Jakarta, 2 February 2013 — UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, in collaboration with UNAIDS and the National AIDS Commission, held a youth dialogue featuring Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, Saturday, at @america, the United States Embassy’s cultural center in Jakarta.

We, the undersigned Heads of United Nations organisations, are deeply concerned that violence against women and girls continues to be one of the most pervasive manifestations of discrimination against women and violations of human rights. Violence against women and girls is a universal phenomenon and its levels remain unacceptably high. As many as seven in ten women in various parts of the world report having experienced physical and/or sexual violence at some point in their lifetime, most of them at the hands of intimate partners.

Jakarta, 22 October 2013 – Human trafficking is a global crime that affects the most basic human rights of its victims. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes estimates that there are more than 20 million current victims worldwide and that approximately 75% of them are women and girls.
