PEOPLE AT THE CENTRE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
The new development agenda and evolving funding dynamic call for new thinking, new partnerships and new ways of doing business. While our current financial situation, at least for now, may not allow us to do more, we can endeavour to do better—and we will.

In 2015, we sought ways to secure more predictable and stable funding while continuing efforts towards innovation, both in our operations and programme delivery, as a means of achieving greater efficiency, greater results and greater impact.

Most young people lack accurate information about reproductive health and contraception, putting them at risk of unwanted pregnancies, STIs, and HIV/ AIDS. Through recognizing the human right of access to comprehensive reproductive health education (CRHE) and services, young people are empowered to protect their health, wellbeing and dignity. Whilst Sri Lanka has made some progress in the delivery of reproductive health services, there is room for improvement in the education sector and to meet international standards and protocols

UNFPA Sri Lanka supports National STD/AIDS Control Programme to launch handbook for Primary Health Care Workers

calendar_today 23 September 2016

Colombo, 23 September 2016: Compared to some if its South Asian counter parts, Sri Lanka’s HIV/AIDS prevalence rate (less than 0.1% for the general population) remains low. This can be attributed to the effective investments that have been made by the government of Sri Lanka over the years. However, there are still age group clusters, such as those between 15-24 years, where the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is slowly but steadily rising. This upward trend can only be curtailed with effective education and awareness for all the demographic groups.

A friend recounted his experience of accompanying a referral case to Yangon Central Women’s Hospital. There was no ambulance service, and the patient had to make her own arrangements. This was a typical story in our area. This conversation sparked an idea”, Ko Win Naung continued: “A friend said, ‘Win Naung, how about starting our own ambulance service?

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon rings the Peace Bell at the annual ceremony held at UN headquarters in observance of the International Day of Peace (21 September)

New York - Every year on the International Day of Peace, the United Nations calls on warring parties to lay down their arms and observe a 24-hour global ceasefire. The symbolism of a day without fighting is a crucial reminder that conflict can and must come to an end.

But peace is about much more than putting weapons aside. It is about building a global society in which people live free from poverty and share the benefits of prosperity. It is about growing together and supporting each other as a universal family.
