The 26th of March marked the one-year anniversary of the nationwide conflict in Yemen. A year on, the scale and scope of humanitarian needs remains staggering with 80 percent of the population requiring some form of humanitarian assistance. The conflict has resulted in 6,400 death, 30,200 injuries and the displacement of one in 10 Yemenis. As of March, 18,952 Yemeni’s have arrived in Djibouti.

The scale and scope of humanitarian needs remains staggering with 21.2 million people needing some form of humanitarian assistance. This is equal to nearly 80 percent of the population. As February, 18,685 Yemeni’s have arrived in Djibouti and 6,472 have been registered as refugees.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate with four out of five people needing humanitarian assistance. The breakdown in the healthcare system, in particular, is denying thousands of Yemenis access to essential health services. More than 70 health centres have been damaged or destroyed by the conflict. Health facilities in 16 out of 22 governorates are either not functioning or partially functioning.

Dağlar Çilingir is 22 years old young women studying political science and international relations in Boğaziçi University. She joined Reproductive Health Peer Educations Project in 2014 and became a peer educator. She has been organizing peer education sessions with other peer educators in the network ever since.
