Strategic Plan 2022-2025

Strategic Plan 2022-2025

Let’s Transform the World Together, Further, Faster!

UNFPA launches its new Strategic Plan for 2022-2025. The main themes of the new plan are acceleration, transformation and reaching the furthest behind.

On top of all, beyond being just a strategic plan, the Strategic Plan for 2022-2025 is a call to action.

The new Strategic Plan invites stakeholders worldwide to join UNFPA on its journey to achieve access to sexual and reproductive health for all, realise reproductive rights and accelerate the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). With the 2030 deadline looming to achieve the three transformative results – ending the unmet need for family planning, ending preventable maternal deaths and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices – we are aware of the pressure on us to make major strides in a short time.

Our commitment to achieving the three transformative results by 2030 remains the same, but our ways of achieving them will be dramatically transformed in light of global changes including “megatrends” that have changed the conditions under which we operate such as drastic shifts in climate, demography and technologies, ongoing inequalities and global pandemic.

The new strategic plan reflects a changing world, and as we accelerate our efforts, transform our programmes, and motivate new partners, we will prioritize the needs of people left furthest behind – particularly those living in poverty or with disabilities, minorities and people from indigenous communities, LGBTQI+ people and the most vulnerable women and girls. And these results cannot be achieved without an increased focus on the rights and inclusive participation of women, adolescents and youth as agents of change.

6 interconnected outputs and 6 accelerators for leaving no room for discrimination or exclusion

In order for this plan to focus on these goals, we embarked on the process of designing the strategic plan by building a base of evidence, good practices, innovations and lessons learned, including the critical response to COVID-19. An extensive consultation process engaged experts, staff and stakeholders in identifying new ways to accelerate progress.

To get us to where we need to go, we have identified six interconnected outputs which show the roads we need to travel and the areas we need to invest in now:

  1. Policy and accountability
  2. Quality of care and services
  3. Gender and social norms
  4. Population change and datas
  5. Humanitarian action
  6. Adolescents and youth

To achieve this faster, we have also identified six accelerators:

  1. Human rights-based and gender-transformative approaches
  2. Innovation and digitalization
  3. Partnerships, South-South and triangular cooperation, and financing
  4. Data and evidence
  5. Leaving no one behind and reaching the furthest behind first

The Strategic Plan 2022-2025 is a call for action

As we aim to transform the world we live in further and faster than ever before, everywhere and for everyone, as UNFPA, we are reinvigorating and reimagining the ways to achieve this goal.

The road ahead won't be easy, but we know that by working together with countries, partners and all relevant parties, we can and will empower women, girls and young people who are key to success in this road.
