Diyarbakır (18 August, 2017) - UNFPA Turkey’s Youth Center in Diyarbakır organized an awareness-raising activity for the young refugees residing in the area who previously participated in the football tournament that was kicked off on August 1st, 2017. The aim of this activity was to inform these young refugees regarding sexually transmitted diseases, HIV & AIDS and equip them with effective communication methods taught by the center’s expert, psychologist Ferzin İpekyüzü

During the presentation on sexually transmitted diseases and HIV & AIDS, the participants asked questions such as the difference between HIV and AIDS, the treatment process, the protection methods of HIV-positive individuals and whether or not an HIV-positive woman can give birth. Thanks to the center’s health expert Merve Salaman, the young refugees were informed about these sexual health topics.

UNFPA Turkey Youth Center in Diyarbakır has been run by UNFPA Turkey’s implementing partners namely Community Volunteers Foundation and Youth Approaches in Health Association (Y-PEER Turkey) partnership. This specific Diyarbakir Youth Center is financially supported by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
