World Population Day 2019
UNFPA is using this year’s World Population Day (11 July) as an opportunity to raise awareness about how choices and opportunities have changed for girls and women since the groundbreaking International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) that took place in Cairo in 1994. Twenty-five years ago, world leaders promised to advance women’s health and rights. Have they delivered? To help answer that question, UNFPA has produced a status report on five ways the ICPD Programme of Action set out to change the world for women and girls.
1) Universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights as a part of universal health coverage,
2) Financing required to complete the ICPD Programme of Action,
3) Demographic diversity and sustainable development,
4) Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices,
5) Right to sexual and reproductive health care even in humanitarian and fragile contexts.
