13 December 2017, İzmir - United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) Turkey office opened a new youth centre in İzmir which is funded by the Japanese Government and will be run by UNFPA Turkey’s implementing partner Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) with the support of Y-Peer Turkey.
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative for Turkey Karl Kulessa, Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) Co-chair Suzan Beyazıt and representatives of many NGOs attended the opening ceremony in İzmir. Among the guests, Bulut Öncü’s mother Betül Öncü was also present and made a short speech during the opening ceremony. Activist Bulut Öncü lost his life in a traffic accident in February 2017. To commemorate his accomplishments and to keep his memory alive, the centre in İzmir is named after him.
