Meet AMBER!

Working for the empowerment of women and ending all forms of gender-based violence in Türkiye for more than 50 years, the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA Türkiye, has developed a new mobile application for women. AMBER; designed to support and empower women in the fields of health and protection.

Globally, one out of every two women is denied her bodily autonomy. One out of every three women experiences physical or sexual violence. One in five women is forced into child marriage. One out of every three girls who get married becomes a mother at a young age. The situation in Türkiye is no different. One out of every three women is exposed to at least one type of violence in their lifetime. So are three out of every four white-collar workers, most of whom are university graduates. Currently, one out of every 5 women between the ages of 18-45 was married as a child.

Today, women and girls still fight for their most basic human right, “a healthy and safe life free from violence”. The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA Türkiye, which has been supporting this fight for the empowerment of women and to end all forms of gender-based violence for more than 50 years, has developed a new project additional to existing ones in this field and developed a mobile application for women.

Information and support, in 5 languages!

For the first time in the field of fighting against gender-based violence, AMBER offers all relevant information, support, guidance, and much more, in 5 languages ​​(Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Kurdish, English) and aims to reach all women in Türkiye. While providing a comprehensive source of information on women's health and gender-based violence, AMBER also stands out with its innovative features such as defining violence, contact points according to the type of violence and location of the person, and a security plan.

AMBER; a menstrual calendar and much more!

At first glance, AMBER appears to be only a menstrual calendar and a pocket guide on sexual and reproductive health. However, AMBER was also designed to raise awareness about gender-based violence, to inform women about what to do in case of violence and the organizations providing services in this regard, and to provide easy access to support in case of emergency, through its secret screen.

What can you do with AMBER?

          

  • With AMBER, women can track their location, send an emergency message and call the hotlines when they don’t feel safe.
  • They can reach detailed information about the types of gender-based violence and can better understand whether they experience violence or not.
  • They can learn the nearest health and protection service points and ask for support from the authorities.
  • They can also assess the risk of exposure to violence and make a safety plan.
  • With the diary feature, they can record their experiences day by day.
