#ActNow

Across the world every 10 minutes 1 women or a girl killed by a family member

One in three women experiences physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. In just 2023, 308 women lost their lives due to male violence.

It's time to turn words and commitments into concrete actions to put an #EndToViolence!

There is much to do!

  • We demand that laws be fully implemented, supported by deterrent measures, and that practices weakening deterrence, such as sentence reductions for 'good behavior' and probation, be abandoned in cases of violence.
  • We call for the strengthening of prevention and protection services and the widespread availability of safe spaces where women can report violence and seek justice without fear.
  • To combat the root cause of violence—gender inequality—we demand equal rights and opportunities for women in every area. We also advocate for equality-focused, human-rights-based education to prevent harmful social norms from taking root at an early age.

During these 16 Days of Activism, and every day, join us in taking action for women's right to live and make their own choices: #ActNow!

SWITCH THE DEFENDANTS

#ActNow

What are women guilty of? Being a woman?
One in three women is subjected to physical or sexual violence.
And they are blamed simply for being "women."
Meanwhile, the real perpetrators are defended with every possible excuse.

Violence has #NoExcuse.

It’s time for the verdict:
Switch the defendants.
Hold the real perpetrators accountable.
#ENDviolence now!

Violence against women is a common issue for all of society!

The only way to #ENDviolence is through a rights-based, victim-centered, multifaceted, and multisectoral approach.

In this context, UNFPA works to:
- Strengthen systems and services, including law enforcement, by supporting decision-makers.
- Ensure all physical and digital spaces are safe for women, youth, and children.
- Inform and empower men, boys, women, and girls to build safe lives together.
- Collaborate with governments, civil society, the private sector, and communities to prevent violence and protect and promote the rights of women and girls.
